Bridgton, Maine, Resort for Sale
The Bridgton Area
Bridgton, Maine has been the economic and recreational center of Western Maine since the
mid-1800's. And it still is!

LOCATION  The Highland Lake Resort is located in the four-season recreational area of Bridgton, Maine (year round population of 5,500, with summer around 15,000). The Resort is located on Highland Lake (5 miles long, approx. 1400 acres), and approximately five (5) miles from the Shawnee Peak Ski area (Maine's third largest skiing facility). A country club with 18-hole golf course is located 7 minutes from the Resort (with discounts offered to our guests),

Less than an hour from Portland, a half-hour from North Conway, NH, and 2 1/2 to 3 hours from Boston, the Resort is within a day's drive of over 40% of the American population. The area surrounding it consists mostly of residential homes plus other lodging facilities. Commercial establishments, including the entire downtown area, are within easy walking distance.

Bridgton is also the inspiration for a number of books and movies from the mind of Stephen King, including “The Dome” (see the map on the front of the building downtown), “The Mist” (shop at Food City, where the story takes place), plus other works. In fact, neighbors often see Mr. King when he comes into town to shop.  In addition, many other people consider Bridgton their second home, including Lois Lowry, author of "The Giver" (recently made into a motion picture starring Jeff Bridges).

LOCAL ECONOMY  The Town of Bridgton is a Service Center for Western Maine, with social service agencies, a court house, and many health care agencies, bringing in people from the surrounding areas. The Bridgton area has experienced significant growth over the last 15 years. Within this time, a new elementary school and a new state-of-the-art hospital (both within 1 mile of the Resort) have been built, plus a new Hannaford Supermarket, Hancock Lumber Distribution Center, Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, several new restaurants, and the significant building and expansion of several established firms, including Hayes True-Value Hardware, Paris Farmers Union, Reny’s Department Store, and Macdonald Motors.

Despite this commercial development, Bridgton has also maintained its 200-year history as the recreational center of Western Maine. A newly-created 66-acre downtown hiking park, a new outdoor recreational complex, brookside trails, an historical walking trail, several museums and art spaces, a modern, downtown movie theater and pub, and an updated drive-in movie theater provide plenty of new experiences for guests.

The local Chamber of Commerce has had significant growth over recent years, and the town has a full-time Development Director. Finally, there's a private, non-profit Bridgton Economic Development Corporation to help promote business and growth year-round.

All this combines to make Bridgton a thriving, growing municipality with  an active downtown and plenty of activities and sites for Resort guests.

It also makes it and ideal place in which to live and raise your family!
